ABSTRACT

The objectives of the research are: ( 1) to describe the students’ ability of grammatical structure before and after learning by using word-and-sentence game technique; ( 2) to identify the effectiveness of the use of word-and-sentence game technique to make the student easy in mastering grammatical structure of French; and (3) to determine the effectiveness of word-and-sentence game technique in improving the mastery of grammatical structure. The research method used is sham experiment method (quasi experiment) by using only one group. The population is Débutant class, 2010/2011 academic year, and the sample comprised of 16 students, selected randomly.
The results of the data analysis showed that the mean of pre-tests was 14,31 and that of the post-test was 18,75. Based on the T-test calculation, it was found that t-observed is equal to 7,77 at the significance level 0.01 by db = 15, whereas the t-tab is 3,73. This means to is bigger than ttab therefore the H1 was accepted.
The findings of the research show that word-and-sentence game technique can be used to help the students master grammatical structure of French easily. Furthermore, it was also found that the word-and-sentence game technique can be used to improve students’ motivation, participative atmosphere and creativity in mastering the French grammatical structures.
